Climate tech is as complex as it is critical. That’s why we created the Climate Brick: to serve as a foundation for all those involved in bringing these crucial, planet-forward innovations to fruition.
Years of research and development has distilled thousands of inputs into seven bricks.
4.000+ companies identified
We identified over 4.000 European climate tech companies using a variety of data sources including Pitchbook, EQT’s Motherbrain database, Holon IQ, Dealroom, CB Insights, Capital IQ, Crunchbase Pro, McKinsey research, expert interviews, and press research.
~2.000 companies analyzed
We filtered down our long list of companies, removing any that had gone bankrupt, were founded prior to 2010, had not been venture funded at some point, or that did not represent one of the seven bricks.
~350 companies meeting success criteria
Created a shortlist that included the top-quartile performing companies per brick based on their valuation, impact, and future value creation potential.
~150 success cases selected for inclusion
Out of the top-quartile shortlist, we selected the top ~10% per brick based on their capital efficiency and value creation trajectory. We also did some qualitative analysis to ensure representation across funding stages.

The bricks were designed to serve the key constituents across the lifecycle of climate-tech startups
Founders
Bringing big ideas for our planet to life often takes a village. We are here, first and foremost, to provide wayfinding for entrepreneurs in the climate-tech space.
Investors
Investing in climate-tech is an increasingly complicated space – we aim to help investors find, and evaluate, the right bets for them.
The Wider Ecosystem
Climate tech requires collaboration between many different stakeholders: institutions, off-takers, supply partners, grant providers, and more. We make it easy for everyone to speak the same language.
The bricks are condensed overviews of seven core climate-tech sectors. Each offers a round-by-round breakdown of the journey to success, serving as a way-finder and evaluation tool.
